Master's Untamed Wife

The Mortal Enemy

The Mortal Enemy

0Mu Chenyan really couldn't understand it at all. How did this information even reach Raelle who didn't even like gossip? She suddenly frowned, did Weimin or Wai go to see Raelle? She couldn't understand it at all and frowned to herself.

"Ahem!"

Hearing that fake cough, she turned her head and came face to face with Xia Zhao. How was this person being called her secret admirer? Wasn't it better to call him, her mortal enemy?

Just looking at him made her teeth grind. He was the reminder that the all-mighty Mu Chenyan wasn't undefeatable!

"So, it's really you, Yan Zi!" said Xia Zhao maintaining a small smile on his face.

Oh, how she wished to tear apart his limbs, skin him alive, and drink his blood.

"You can't do that," he said.

"Did I say that out loud?" she asked.

"No, but your views can't possibly change," he replied. "You still wish to break my limbs, skin me or roast me a little or drink my blood."

She humphed, "It's good that you know."

Seeing her hand clenching into a fist as if she was ready to throw a punch, he reminded lightly, "Yan Zi, don't go back on your words. I won the bet and you promised you'd never try to beat me again."

Damn it! She cursed in her mind. How could she not be infuriated just looking at his face? He was again reminding her of the bet between them. The problem was the bets between them were many and it was always him who won! She could never get the upper hand. Not when he was involved.

Actually, she did win some bets but it was always him who purposely let her win. As if she was a fool who couldn't tell that.

"There is a coffee shop around," he said all of a sudden breaking her chain of thoughts. "How about we have some coffee? I can't let you drink my blood but I am generous enough to pay for your coffee."

"Annoying!" was what she said before she walked past him and left.

He lowered his head and his smile widened.

They got to the coffee shop and found an empty table beside the glass window. The view outside the window was of a beautiful mountain range but the attention of both of them was on each other. Even when they sat in front of each other, they only looked at each other without saying a word.

There was a very strange atmosphere around them. Very strange.

Surprisingly, they both had the same expression on their faces as well. The silence between them didn't make the atmosphere tense. They both seemed to be observing the other person attentively. After all, they both hadn't seen each other for two decades.

"Are you ready to order?"

Both of them snapped out of their thoughts and turned to look at the waitress. Being under two pairs of eyes, the waitress was taken aback.

"Two iced Americanos," ordered Mu Chenyan.

"Tsk. You still like to do whatever you want. What if I don't like iced Americano anymore?" asked Xia Zhao.

"Do I look like I care? Why do I have to keep your likes and dislikes in mind?" she retorted.

"What ticked you off?" he asked.

"You don't know?" she asked.

Xia Zhao shrugged, "How would I know what the mysterious Mu Chenyan is thinking?"

She laughed at that, "No. You always know what I'm thinking. You always seem to see through me. It's me who isn't able to look through you. The only mysterious person here had always been you, not me." She took a pause before adding, "If it wasn't like that, how would I repeatedly end up losing?"

"You lost once again," he said casually.

"What do you mean?"

"Yan Zi, the last time we met we made another bet. I told you, I'll make you come looking for me. See? You're here looking for me. Didn't I win?"

Mu Chenyan was stunned when he mentioned that. She had to recall that memory and gave him a complicated look. She really didn't think he'd still not only remember the bet but would also win it once again. She suddenly felt like beating herself. Why did she get curious? Why the hell did she come here looking for him? Why?!

"Are you feeling very happy?" she asked. "To win once again? Why are you so excited? It's not your first time winning. How can you still be happy about it?"

"Who doesn't like winning?" he retorted. "But you're right. This time, I'm actually very happy to win the bet. I'm exhilarated. So, thank you for coming. It's all thanks to you that I won." He took a pause to stare at her before adding, "Do you remember what was at odds?"

"It was a blank bet," said Mu Chenyan. "The winner could ask for anything." Her expressions hardened when she said that. "What do you want?"

He had a thoughtful look on his face before he said, "Nothing for now. Let's say you owe me this time. I'll ask for something when I figure out what I want."

Mu Chenyan's brows knitted up, "No. You tell me now what you want."

He chuckled, "Are you still so scared of owing people?"

"You know very well that I never liked giving promises," she replied. "How can I just give you a blank promise? It's not happening."

"You don't have a choice," he replied. "I'm the one who won."

Mu Chenyan glared at him, "You're still very hateful."

"And yet you don't hate me," he added.

"Who said I don't hate you?" she shot back. "It's just that it's been too long so I don't want to even think about you. I've long forgotten someone like you even existed."

"I highly doubt that," he replied. "Or else, just a painting wouldn't be able to pull you here."

Mu Chenyan lowered her head and didn't respond. Because he was right. If it was so easy to remove his presence from her memories, she wouldn't be here just for a painting.
