'How could I forget...!?' Remembering a particular problem, Jun placed a hand on his face as he scoured through his memories.
Once he awakened the Rinnegan, he was finally able to summon the Gedo Mazou[1] from the moon. Through it, he also gained access to Zetsu.
Judging by the current date, and the fact that swirly had abducted Ren, Jun quickly concluded that the second Madara had already awakened the Rinnegan, and was commencing his eye of the moon plan.
Jun remembered... The first thing he did was getting rid of any possible threats to his plan. Since the Senju were practically extinct, he went for their close cousins... The Uzumaki. He had multiple reasons for this.
First, he disliked their sealing abilities and knew that if they remained present, they would be the biggest threat to his interests. Knowing that the other shinobi villages were concerned about them as well, he had swirly assassinate their most powerful ninja and retrieve all of their secret techniques.
To be clear, he didn't fear them, but just found them to be a nuisance or a thorn on his side.
The Uzumaki were unable to defend themselves as the other four villages destroyed them, missing their leader.
Konoha was unable to protect its allies from the onslaught and chose to stay their hand. Although they wanted to help, if they sacrificed themselves while trying to save the Uzumaki, they would be left vulnerable and inevitably be destroyed in the upcoming war.
No matter how strong they were, they would be unable to tank all of the other villages attacking them at once, especially without the support of the Uzumaki clan, who had lost their most influential members.
Because swirly had also taken their techniques, none of the other villages ended up reaping any benefits from their destruction. As the only ones that didn't participate, Konohagakure quickly gained the advantage during the war.
The second reason was Nagato. Madara needed a vessel for his eyes, and an Uzumaki would be the perfect fit. Therefore, he had swirly aid in his family's escape before the clan's destruction.
'How could something this important elude my mind for so long... I have to fix this.' Clicking his tongue, Jun got to thinking. 'If I'm not wrong, the document that we're meant to deliver should consist of the other villages' intentions, as well as the actions both Konohagakure and Uzushiogakure will take.'
For now, there was a small chance that swirly had already assassinated the Uzumaki's leaders. If he hadn't, the situation could still be salvaged.
'But if they're dead...' Jun frowned. If swirly had already done his thing, there would be no chance of getting Konoha to join the battle, no matter how much they wanted to. And although he hated to admit it, Jun wasn't at a level where he could single-handedly save the Uzumaki.
'Then again, even if they aren't dead yet, it's only a matter of time until they are...' Frustrated, Jun remembered a critical detail. Even if he warned the Uzumaki, swirly was too strong for them to stop. If he wanted them dead, they had no chance.
Even he had no way of stopping the goofy creature. It's power, especially when attached to a dormant host, was much too great. And it would be even worse now since Jun was entirely sure that the inactive host would be Ren, a user of the Sharingan.
'Damn it all...!' Jun hadn't felt this frustrated since Zetsu's betrayal. No matter what he did, he couldn't think of a single way to save the Uzumaki unless he was stronger than swirly... Alas, he was currently far from that level.

[1] The Demonic Statue of the Outer Path is the husk of the Ten-Tails that remained after its chakra was separated from its body. It was sealed in the moon by Hagoromo and Hamura Ōtsutsuki, where it stayed until Madara Uchiha awakened the Rinnegan.
A/N: Ok, so take all of this with a grain of salt. This is my fanfic, so I was finally allowed to portray my idea of what happened to Uzushiogakure. More information will come with future chapters, but I hope you found it interesting, or even eye-opening. To me, this sounds more plausible than the leaf abandoning them for any other reason. Them losing their foremost leaders severely weakened the clan, thus making it impossible for Konoha alone to save them, even though they REALLY wanted to. And I can't stress that enough, they really did want to, in my opinion. Also, Madara needed a reason to break Nagato and have him use the Rinnegan in the future.
